パンツの裾の後の裏側に付ける布。
パンツ裾ヘムに主に共布で15mm巾×80mm長程度の当布で、パンツの裾のヘムの後が靴と擦れるため補強として付ける。それと、裾が地面と擦れて切れるのを防ぐ目的もある。通常、後中心で2〜3mm程度靴擦れ布を出し、補強する。多くは、生地の耳を利用して出来るだけ表に響かないように、薄い補強を心掛ける。また、共布ではなく専用のテープを使用する場合もある。
主にスーツのパンツや、スラックスに付けられるもので、購入した店舗で裾上げを依頼した場合は付いて出来上がってくる。

THE HEEL STAY
The strip of fabric, called a heel stay, is now applied to the hem at the back of the pants. Its purpose is to proteck the hem form wear in the area that will come into contact with the back of shoe.
Cut a strip of garment fabric, about 7"(7.6cm) wide,and fold (as illustrated). Place the fabric just above the hem fold at the center of the back of the pants. Secure the heel stay to the hem by back-stitching along the folded edges, and by cross-ctitching the raw edges at either end. These stitches should catch only the hem, and not go through to the right side of the pants.
